So I've been getting calls from this law firm for the last few days. They claim I owe a debt, but I'm not even sure what it's for. The caller was pretty aggressive and said they might take legal action if I don't pay immediately.
I panicked at first, but then I started doing some research. I know I have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, but I'm not sure how to handle this. I've read that I should ask for debt validation first, but I'm worried about the 30 day window to respond.
Has anyone dealt with this firm before? Are they legitimate? What happened when you asked them to verify the debt? I'm also concerned about the statute of limitations because this might be an old debt.
I really don't want to get sued or have my wages garnished. Any advice on how to handle this would be appreciated. Should I send a validation letter? What should I say if they call again? I'm trying not to stress but it's hard when they keep calling.
Thanks in advance for any help!
