Re: What's the real cost of maintaining a Rolls Royce outside of warranty?

Owned a 2016 Ghost for three years, and the car itself was solid. What hurt was the air suspension and a couple of electronic modules, each costing more than a decent used hatchback's tire set. Keep a repair fund of 20k AED a year in a separate account and you'll sleep fine.

Re: Did I destroy my CTS-V's shocks on those Mirdif construction roads?

Had a 2016 CTS-V with the same twitchy rear after a few months of bad roads. One magneride damper had gone soft and the car fidgeted on the highway just like you describe. Dealer wanted a fortune, an independent shop replaced the one corner for a fraction of that.

Ditched the dealer on my E-Class years ago and never looked back. A decent independent used OE-spec pads and the job came to roughly a third of the dealer price. Just ask what brand they're fitting before you agree to anything.

Re: Does anyone offer mobile battery service for Mercedes in the Marina area?

That's a rough way to start the morning, especially with a basement that tight. Hang in there, mobile guys who handle German cars do exist, you just have to call around a bit more. Most of them work out of vans so the tight access shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Starting a small chemical blending operation in Sohar, any local tank suppliers?

Good luck with the new place, starting small is the smart way to do it. Try calling a couple of the bigger chemical distributors around Sohar, since they often know who keeps stock. Eight tanks is a reasonable first order, so don't let anyone push a full container on you.

Hang in there, a smooth engine and gearbox are worth saving. Those French electrical gremlins are annoying but almost always traceable if the person has the right tool. Find a workshop that mostly does PSA cars, not a general Japanese-car place.

Re: Anyone else feel like Cadillacs need extra TLC in this climate?

Switched from the dealer to an independent guy about two years ago and never looked back. He actually plugged in a proper scan tool and showed me the codes instead of just saying "it's fine." Cost me nearly half too, and the work was better.

Re: Has anyone here done a full carbon kit on their car? Wondering if it's worth the extra cash.

Went full carbon on my Charger about two years ago and I'd do it again. Panels still sit flush, no yellowing yet, and I park outside most days through July and August. Just make sure whatever you buy has a proper UV clear coat.

Re: Can a scratch be buffed out or does it need a full repaint?

Honestly the "magic pen" guys are hit and miss. Had one do a scratch on my bumper and it looked fine for about two months, then the fill shrank and you could see the line again. A proper polish beats that every time if the scratch isn't through the paint.

Re: Looking at a used Jeep Wrangler in Ras Al Khor – should I get it inspected first?

Axle seal leaks are super common on these once they've done any real off-roading or even just aged normally, but a regular mechanic without Jeep specific experience might not think to check there thoroughly. Transfer case issues can be subtle too, sometimes just a slight grinding or hesitation when ...
